Hi Backers,

International backers if you have not confirmed your address, the cut off is 2/12/21. After that we will be building the final manifests for the fulfilment company.  If you see that your address is incorrect, message us your new one and we will update it.

Terrain Tinker is now live!
about 3 years ago – Thu, Feb 04, 2021 at 05:52:06 PM

Hi Everyone,

Our partners at Printable Scenery & Terrain Tinker launched their KS this morning. Its a virtual OpenLOCK building system. You will be able to plan your builds, print out maps for your players, and 3D print pieces if have a 3D printer. Its an amazing tool for DMs planning a campaign or if you just want to log in and have fun virtual building!

Go check it out, and help support them in finishing up this great program.

Eventually we will have a virtual version of all the pieces AOD is manufacturing in Terrain Tinker!

We have been asked for layouts of all our pledges and addons from backers. We will be using Terrain Tinker to create those layouts!

What you will see in Terrain Tinker is a glimpse of some of the endless pieces that are OpenLOCK and what we will be releasing as AOD in the future.

The Future is Bright!

First Test Shots of the new A Fine Stone Wall & Last chance for International Backers to update their address.
about 3 years ago – Sun, Jan 24, 2021 at 10:41:41 PM

Hi Everyone,

It has been pretty amazing to read the feedback from backers, who have received their orders. We are very thrilled with what people are saying.  Its been a long road to get here, but its starting to feel like everything might have worked out for the better. I can state for a fact, the final molds would not be as detailed as they are,  if we hadn't made it all in house with full control.

International backers you are next, we are completely focused on finishing up your orders. WI am feeling confident that all International orders will be wrapped up and leaving our warehouse in the next few weeks. Once they have all left, we will be opening up our webstore exclusively to backers. You will be able add more items as they were on the KS, and they will be shipped to you with the second wave shipment.

International Backer Address Verification

International backers, this is your last chance to head over the Backerkit and log in to verify your address is correct. If it is not please message us through KS, and we will update it for you. Backerkit addresses are locked so you can not edit them yourself.

Fine Stone Wall Test Shots

Our team has been working behind the scenes on wave 2 sculpts while wave 1 items have been shipping out. We wanted to update the fine stone wall to match the detail we created in our main stone wall. Here is a photo of the first test shot of the Fine Stone Wall with a layer of primer. There is a lot more detail in these sculpts, compared to our original fine stone model from the KS. These will paint up nicely and be a great foundation for all the of the Crypt & Dwarven style walls.

Here is a photo of the Fine Stone test mold.

Stay tuned for more updates showing wave 2 pieces.

Thanks

Shipping status, paint color palette, & we added a 5th axis to our CNC machine!
about 3 years ago – Tue, Jan 12, 2021 at 03:55:21 PM

Happy New Year Everyone!

Hopefully this year is a little better.

Shipping Status

We decided to hold the shipping on some of the orders that were processed on the 31st, after getting feedback from some backers that the fumes from the varnish were too strong. A makeshift drying area with fans and heaters was made, to air them out. The last of those held orders have all been packed and they get picked up tomorrow (Tuesday) by Fedex and USPS. We will now finish up the rest of the Domestic orders this week, so keep an eye out for your shipping email.

We will make sure to give the pieces enough time to air out as we pack the International orders, now that this issue was brought to our attention.  The team has gotten a bit numb to the smell, and we didn't realize that they should have aired out more before sealing them in bags. We will begin varnishing and airing out the remaining pieces for the International orders this weekend, and beginning to pack them late next week. Once we have an exact shipping date for International orders it will be posted.

Here are a couple photos showing the spray varnish process.

This first photo shows the difference between the walls with and without the Matte varnish. The wall on the left has been varnished the one on the right has not. There varnished wall looks and feels more like real stone, it helps time all the colors together.

Rows of A-Walls

Rows of bottom columns all plugged together. Yes you can make really tall stone columns if you wanted!

 Tops of columns

 Paint Palette

We have gotten numerous requests for painting tutorials for the unpainted orders. Once we have all of the wave 1 International orders shipped, we will be able to work on a tutorial, while manufacturing wave 2. Here is a list of the main colors that we designed our paint work around. We used "The Army Painter" paint as our base for colors, then had paint matched to those colors in larger quantities. So there could be a subtle difference between them.

The Army Painter:

Dungeon Grey

Ash Grey

Stone Golem

Castle Grey

Leather Brown

Wet Mud

Daemonic Yellow

Desert Yellow

Hemp Rope

Arid Earth

Kobold Skin

Phoenix Flames

Skeleton Bone

New 5th Axis Addition to our CNC

We have added a 5th axis to our CNC machine, it will allow us to cut molds faster, more accurate, and more intricate.

This is a game changer for us!

Here is a video of it in action.

Here is a photo of the finished slider tip. This took 23 mins to cut with us at the machine for 4 mins, it use to take about 60 mins to make this piece and required us to stand at the machine for about 20 mins. This will give us a huge edge on wave 2 molds and all future projects.

Once again thanks everyone for your patients with us on this project.

It is exciting to see photos of backers using what we have made, starting to pop up, we can't wait for everyone to have theirs.

Stay safe out there!

Thanks

Shipping Updates
over 3 years ago – Thu, Dec 24, 2020 at 09:40:58 PM

Hi Backers,

 Happy Holidays!

We are still in the middle of shipping out the US painted orders, it has taken us a couple weeks longer then we had hoped to get this all out. We are down to three people in the warehouse because of Covid. We have had a couple scares where some of our teams spouses were possibly exposed to Covid at their jobs. So those people have had to stay home until their spouses test results came in. Luckily it doesn't look like any of them have gotten it. With the spread of Covid spiking in California, we have decided not to add any new people to the team. We are not taking any chances of our little bubble of people getting exposed. We will have all the US painted orders shipped out by the 31st of this year.

International orders will be packed and ready to leave our warehouse around mid January. Quarter Master Logistics, has given us a date that is much later then we had originally expected. They are saying because of the high volume and problems with Covid, they wouldn't be able to realistically start managing our International orders until February. That would possibly push the shipping out till March. That doesn't work for us, and I am sure it doesn't work for the International backers either.

I reached out to Ed Pugh from Reaper Miniature for advice, and as always he has been gracious enough to step in and help out.  I will be working with Ed on ways to get the International orders out before February, through their fulfillment chains in Canada & Europe.

For New Zealand and Australia, we will be shipping pallets to Printable Scenery in New Zealand. Then Matt Barker and his team will ship them direct to backers. This will most likely be our chain long term for shipments to NZ & AUS, it will also allow us to keep stock of our product at Printable Scenery. So when you order from our webstore it will ship from NZ to NZ & AUS customers.

All other International locations will most likely be shipping direct from our warehouse.

For NZ, AUS, & Europe, we will be looking at the price difference between air freight and sea. If we can afford to absorb the extra costs and get it shipped by air to the fulfillment center we will. That would help expedite the shipping process.

I would like to apologize to the International Backers. There was a comment made by a backer saying they felt like "Second Class Backers". There was also the comment made that we had an "America First" attitude towards backers.  Nothing could be further from the truth!

As a small new company that has gone through a bunch growing pains since we launched the KS, we had to keep things moving any way possible. One of those ways is to ship things out the second they are done. With US shipments, as we finished packing or painting a certain amount we could then ship it right out. We can't do that with International orders, they have to all be manifested and put on pallets to ship out at the same time. So we went with the path of least resistance, meaning get product out to some backers as fast as we can.  If we had tried to get the International orders out first, we would still not have shipped anything out for the KS. That would have left backers wondering if they were ever going to see a product.

We have defiantly learned from this experience and will be better equipped and staffed to get International order shipped out sooner with future products.

I will be positing some photos of larger builds next week as we close up the US shipping.

Here are a couple of teaser photos in the meantime of the final production paint jobs with weathering. We are really happy with how it all turned out, we hope you are as well.

Please stay safe out there, and have a Amazing Holidays!
